Especially for its medications, which are manufactured for heart and cancer treatments, this pharmaceutical company sets manufacturing standards that exceed industry norms as a matter of course. In addition, to meet the quality standards for these medications as specified by an FDA guideline, the human factor—as a source of contamination—had to be eliminated, necessitating a switch to fully automated production.
At the pharmaceutical company’s Belgian production facility, a new cleanroom area is currently being commissioned. A cleanroom? No! This consists of up to four mobile cleanrooms within the cleanroom itself. The idea originated in Hürth, near Cologne, from the experts at GEA Lyophil. Drawing on the extensive experience of GEA’s experts and the systems already in operation at this manufacturer, GEA was tasked with the challenge: “How can the process steps of an existing plant be expanded and integrated in such a way as to secure the site’s future for the next 10 to 20 years?”
